The annual continuation of a complete traverse of the Alps by mountain bike – open to members of Tyne Valley MTB

Tyne Valley MTB: Great Alpine Chain Route – 2014

MTB Alps 2014

8 ride days

Gastein Tal to Hinterstoder

Friday 15/08 to Sunday 24/08

This year we plan to fly from Manchester to Munich airport then stop over to ride at Leogang* en route over the Gross Glockner Pass to complete sections we missed riding in 2013. We then head into the Dachstein range of mountains which we circumnavigate rather than cross due to its glacier and high craggy profile. We then wend our way through this very picturesque area riding selected sections of the Dachstein MTB Loop Tour to end our 2014 tour ideally placed for where in 2015 we will start in our final leg of the Great Alpine Chain route by MTB between Geneva and Vienna. Our last night will also place us relatively close to the motorway which will take us back to Munich airport for the flight back to Manchester. NB. All days are planned to be door to door riding although 2 days will involve a transfer by minibus at some point. As ever our overnights will be memorable.

Ruth Marlee has agreed to cheerfully drive the support minibus once again for our 2014 tour. We were most grateful to Graham Vickers and Steve Hanson for stepping in at short notice to cover for Ruth when she became (really) ill just prior to the 2013 tour.

7 club members who rode the 2013 have rebooked to ride the 2014 the tour and we welcome Graham Patton who jumped at the chance to take up the last vacant place.

If enough riders are keen, it may well be possible to organise a second Alpine tour in September 2015 to one of the best areas in the world for mountain biking which we rode through two summers ago. Please let Ted know if you are interested. A second Alps tour in 2015 will need to be forward planned.
